Wiring Megasquirt1 ecu onto a 1998 VR6

Postby RRIDER450 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:14 am

im in the middle of a VR6 swap into a beetle. im using a MS1 ecu system, and a ford coil pack and edis6 module. i just wanna know if MS1 is setup up to use pins number 24 and 36? my wiring harness is universal for MS1 and MS2 im just worried that those pins are only being used if you have MS2.

Pinouts for MS1 and MS2 are the same. They change based on the board version. V2.2 boards use 1 set of pinouts and V3.0 and V3.57 use another.

ok. so how do i wire up the stock VR6 ignition module to work then? like i said there are two ignition wires from megasquirt. the one is labeled IGN and the other is labeled PIN36. there are 5 wires coming out of my ignition module. the big black wire is 12volt power, the big brown wire is ground, i need to know where the other three wires go. there all black with diff color stripes. there suppost to be "ignitior" wires. im gonna imagine that one of them has to connect to my crank sensor?? :?: please any help is appriated. THANKS!!

Ok, the wire labeled IGN is a sheilded wire for tach signal INPUT. That goes to whatever you are using for a crank signal. However, a VR6 has a 60-2 tooth wheel on the crank and a VR crank sensor. To use EDIS you HAVE to use a 36-1 tooth wheel. You should probably start out by doing some serious reading. Start with the megamanual and then move on to the MS- Extra manuals. Once you've done that things should be clearer and then we can talk about hooking things up to get you working.
