The Watercooled Vanagon runners look very much like the Mustang 5.0 upper intake manifold runners where they join the lower intake manifold.

what does the other end look like? its not a straight 8 im sure lol
little search i found this...

Looks like a bunch of aluminium welding.

That is the upper intake manifold. The lower intake manifold has the row of 8 that gets split to the 8 ports with injectors at the ends of the runners at the head.
It is pretty amazing actually. The air goes through the airbox to the TB and then the long runner over to the plenum. The plenum then allows the air to turn back around and go the other way to the top of the lower intake manifold. Then, the air goes off in 8 different directions through the lower intake manifold to the ports in the heads.
If you measure the distance from the back of the intake valves to the airbox it is a long way. I am not sure how long, but it is plenty long.
