After some consultation with a fabricator at the PRI show last weekend, my boss and I are getting some 5 1/2 inch 36-1 toothed wheels made that will be a bolt-on for a water cooled VW 4 cylinder. We were kicking around the idea of putting together a MS specific crank trigger kit using these wheels and a sensor and bracket. Basically the kit would be a bolt on 36-1 wheel, crank sensor with a mounting bracket, pigtail for the sensor and installation instructions with both MS1 and MS2 trigger wheel settings. The cost would be around $100 to $150 depending on if we can get bulk pricing on crank sensors.

Any interest? And please note that unlike the other mfrs already mentioned in this thread this is a VW specific kit

$45 dollars shipped without a sensor.

We have also have just completed a Engine brace conversion for a type 4 motor into a Porsche 912 with an integrated VR mount.

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone still interested there is a simpler solution to getting a crank trigger signal...

Square wave output from Hall effect sensor, voltage is whatever you powered it with (ie. 5v, 12v, etc.) works on VW typ1, type 4, 356/912 and waterboxer. Feel free to contact me if interested. Very cost effective and minimally intrusive.

Really neat job, congrats!

I doing a 912 - 1967 with a "fresh" 2104 type4 engine to install on it. I love your clean solution to convert these babies.

Do you have this Cad file available in any manner to print/cut on here and do some work. Are you confortable to share or perhaps sell it this Cad12 archive?!

Have a shop waiting for any solution. Trying to go for the fastest and cleanest solution and i think we have a winner here!!

Let me know when you have a chance plz

Cheers
