Scirocco 16v - Belgium

Postby Scirocco16vGTX » Tue May 31, 2011 2:53 am

Hi all,

I'm Scirocco16vGTX and I own a... -duh- Scirocco Mk2 16V (KR spec - 139bhp) from 1986 with factory fitted Recaros, electrical windows & power steering.
Been working on the b*tch some time now already, doing a body off restoration.

This is how I bought it, fairly OEM with 286.000km on the clock and still running like hell:

cil. head looks a bit worn...

black sludge, nothing strange after 286.000km

bougth GT-spec headlights to renew

and then sh*t hit the fan.... RUST :o and it was the beginning of verryy verrrryyy verrry painfull discoveries of rust all over the underbody!

then finally gave up the body-works.. there was just too much rust at some critical point such as RR axle mounting points, engine struts, side under boards ect so on the look-out for a second body and found an 99% identical one in The Netherlands..

side by side, identical twins you say?

all of the above (and much more) is 5 years of blood, sweat & tears...

now we are at the point of prepping the engine again, to install in the body.
and I'm in doubt what to do with the fuelsystem.. OEM it runs on the mechanical K-jet which restricts me from doing more then 180bhp, so I was checking all my options --> Weber carbs / ITB's / Megasquirt stand-alone... ?

I dunno.. anybody have some tips? or pro's & con's?
engine is the overhauled/overbored (81.51mm) 1800cc KR with swapped cams (see data above)..

in relation to the Megasquirt stand-alone, I'm quiet new to all this electronic-shizzle
but euhrrr how does this work? is there like an auto-setup for the injection map data, to start with? or do I need to programm all data from scratch? Are there people here/internet who have basic map data for a 16V-KR engine? how does this system react/calculate on all aftermarket cams and intake designs and exhaust headers ect?

sorry guys, lots of questions but again, I'm really in the deep here.. out of my comfort zone -sort of speak :geek:
